Andy Piper
Andy Piper began taking photographs with a plastic Diana camera for a high school visual arts class in 1970, and the medium has been his vocation and his avocation ever since.
Graduating with a B.S. in Cinema & Photography from Southern Illinois University/Carbondale, his first job was research and public relations photographer for The Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Returning to school to earn an M.A. in Visual Communications from Ohio University, he then entered the world of daily photojournalism as a photographer, graphic designer and editor, working for newspapers in Knoxville and Memphis, Tennessee; Indianapolis; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and from 1993 until its closing, the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.
In addition to his full-time jobs, Andy is also a freelance travel photographer/writer whose stories and pictures have appeared in newspapers from Portland and San Francisco to Dallas, Cleveland, and Florida. His photographs also appear in the book Family of Man 2, published by the Leica Users Group in 2008.
